Photo Wall Display Ideas & Examples

Here are just a few examples of photo wall display arrangements that may help to inspire you.  With the holidays right around the corner, this would be a great time of year to finally create that family photo wall to show off to your friends and family when they stop by for a visit or celebration!  You can also check out my personal family photo wall display by clicking on the tab at the top of the page...

Cool Photo Wall Display Ideas!

If you love pictures and photography and haven't already heard of Photojojo - you've got to check it out.  I've actually been a fan for a while now - I even bought their book which has some great photo projects and DIY ideas that are super-cool!

I was just perusing the Photojojo store and there are a couple of products that would make terrific and creative photo displays, and best of all - they are relatively inexpensive!

The Photo Clips (top and middle images at left) are cool, too - they are just small clear fasteners that allow you to clip photos together any way you want to build an arrangement for your wall.

One $10 box contains 110 clips - imagine the masterpieces you could build! Check out the Photojojo store to see more examples and to buy these awesome tools.

The Photo Rope (bottom left) is simply a 58-inch long metal line that you attach to the wall and it comes with 8 super strong tiny magnets that hold pictures to the rope wherever you want them - a very cool, sleek, and modern photo display!  Oh, and it comes in 5 colors!

Think Christmas, Hanukkah, or birthday presents, too!

Create a Corner Photo Wall Display??

I love this corner wall frame by Umbra.  It's fresh and original and just plain cool!  I don't know about you, but I have not seen a collage frame, or any frame for that matter, before that is designed to hang on the corner of a wall.   It holds twelve photographs - four 2.5" X 3", four 3.5" X 3", two 3.5" X 4" and two 4" X 6".  It includes mat boards and has a handsome espresso color finish.

Umbra is a leader in casual, contemporary and affordable design for the home and I love many of Umbra's picture frames, so you're sure to see me featuring many of them here for you!

Photo Display Ideas for Stairways

Malden 2116-57 5 by 7/8 by 10 Double Mat wall frame, Dark WalnutIf you have a bare stairway and are looking for a place to create a photo wall display - the wall adjacent to your stairs can be the perfect place for a family photo display.  The trick to creating a pleasing display is to make sure to follow the angle of your stairs.  The picture frames can be hung somewhat randomly, but in a pleasing arrangement of course.  Every two or so steps, measure the distance from the step to the bottom of your arrangement to ensure that it remains the same distance - the bottom of the photo display arrangement should be around two feet above the stair step just below it if at all possible.  If that rule of thumb isn't possible, don't fret because as long as it's at the same angle as the steps and equal distance from the steps throughout the arrangement it'll look great.

Brown Collage Frame 10"x28" For Five Open 4"x6" PhotosThe frames, just like in most arrangements, should at least be similar.  They don't all have to be the same material, but should all be in the same color tone.  Similarly, the photographs themselves should be either all color or all black and white.  You can even incorporate collage photo display frames like the one pictured to the left here.  Click on the collage frame or the one above it for more details on them.  The picture at right is a good example of a great stairway family photo wall.

How to Take Great Pictures

The answer is simple - take a lot of pictures!  I often receive compliments on the pictures I take with my simple point-and-shoot camera and I truly believe that the reason why I sometimes end up with pretty amazing photographs is because I take loads of pictures - sometimes even a hundred or two from a short outing somewhere or just while watching my daughters play on the swingset.

Canon PowerShot SD1200IS 10 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Green)

It's taken some time, but I've learned to edit and delete - I now try and keep only the very best pictures.  It can take time to download and review so many pictures, but aren't your memories worth it?  Next time you pick up your camera, give it a try - snap away and see what happens!  By the way, I have a slightly older version of the camera pictured above (I wish mine was this beautiful green!) - if you'd like to learn more about it, click on the picture.

The Beginning of a Photo Wall Display

One of the important things to consider when arranging photo frames on a wall is to make sure all the frames go together well.  They by no means need to be all the same, but they should complement each other.  What I mean by that is that if you want neutral brown frames, then all the frames should be brown - you can mix light, medium and dark browns and you can even throw in a gold or bronze frame and you'd be just fine.  It's okay to mix materials, too, like metal and wood, as long as you stick to the same color group.

This frame set is a great way to get started, especially if you'll have a large photo display wall with many photos.  This set of frames are all alike (of varying sizes, however) but that's okay - all you have to do is add a few more individual frames to this set that are complimentary and you have yourself a great photo wall display.

If you prefer to keep things simple, you could create a wall frame display using just these 10 frames that are all alike.  The price for this set of 10 wooden frames is unbeatable!  See examples of photo wall arrangements here.

Hanging Photo Display Ideas

Here's another great option if you're short on time or creativity and you like a more modern look ... hang six photos from this trapeze style wall photo display and sit back and enjoy your favorite photos!

Each photo in this wall photo display hangs - floats - between two pieces of glass which gives it a clean, crisp feel.

Based on reviews of this frame, all you need to be careful of is to avoid getting fingerprints on the inside of the glass when placing your photos and avoid over-tightening of the screws that hold the two pieces of glass together or you run the risk of cracking the glass!

How to Creat a Photo Wall Collage - Easily!

Here's a great way to get started creating a photo wall display, especially if you have a small wall area that you want to display photos on.

This set of 2 coordinating photo holders are pre-arranged, so all you have to do is find the pictures to place in each individual frame and hang!

The antique gold finish is a great color as it not only is neutral to match most decors, but it ads a bit of elegance to your photos.

Family Photo Arrangements

If you're anything like this mom (me), you take tons of family pictures, especially of your kids.  I have certainly learned over the past couple of years how to hit that delete button, especially on blurry pictures - I used to not be able to delete any picture of my kids no matter how bad it was!

Okay, so you have all these wonderful pictures - now what?!  You want to show off your beautufil kids to the world, or at least that part of the world that actually enters your home.  But how?  My favorite thing to do is to create a photo wall display.  There are many different ways of arranging photo frames on a wall, depending on your taste, space availability, and number of photo frames to be hung.

You can create a static display or one that can easily be changed or rotated.  See great tips, how-tos, and examples of creative ways of arranging photo frames on a wall.
